Oregon Coast Photographer | Covering the Oregon Coast {Vol. 4} Hug Point
The first time I remember seeing Hug Point was about 12 years ago when my sisters and I were on a road trip from Montana to Oregon. We spent most of our time in Seaside on that trip, saw the sign for Hug Point and joked about stopping for a hug, but never actually did stop. In fact, I didn't stop there on the dozens and dozens of trips to the Oregon coast in the years since then. This quest for our family to cover the entire coast this year was what finally got me to explore this place I'd driven by so many times in the past. Once again I can't believe we were SO incredibly close to this beach, driving by on visits to Cannon Beach, Manzanita, even Arcadia Beach and Short Sands Beach. Hug Point is about 5 miles south of Cannon Beach and has become a favorite stopping place for us this year. Our first time going there was in January and it was the perfect day at the Oregon coast. The sun was out, temperatures were in the 60s which is extremely rare for January, and people were scarce. The coastline is just breathtaking at Hug Point and every single visit is unique depending on the tides, time of year, and the weather. The waterfall was a highlight for my boys on this trip and every trip. There are caves and little coves to explore, tide pools, and gorgeous coastline and ocean as far as the eye can see.We returned to Hug Point again in April, one of 3 stops at the coast that day.On a particularly hot day in July, several friends joined us at Hug Point also. We were wanting to escape the Portland heat and none of the friends had been to this area. Despite the wind, it was another gorgeous day. The kids all spent the day at the waterfall, digging trenches to the beach, while the adults chatted and reapplied sunscreen to each others' kiddos.Hug Point provided the backdrop for the gorgeous styled elopement I was able to be a part of in May also.
