Oregon Coast Photographer | Covering the Oregon Coast {Vol. 2} Cape Kiwanda
I'm skipping ahead on our Oregon coast adventures and sharing some photos from this past Sunday. My boys know me well and knew where I'd want to spend Mother's Day. Whether or not we cover the entire Oregon coast this year remains to be seen. It may take a couple of years, but the whole point of the covering the Oregon coast challenge is to explore new places as much as possible. That's exactly what we did this weekend and I turned to Pat at least 15 times throughout the day and said, "I can't believe we've been SO close to this place so many times and never checked it out before!" We still didn't see everything this area has to offer. If you walk just a bit north of the Pelican Pub in Pacific City {see the post about our Pacific City adventure HERE}, this whole other world known as Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area exists. We arrived at low tide and had fun on the rocks and in the sand, looking at sea stars, hermit crabs, and sea anemone. After exploring near the water, we climbed the big sand dune to overlook a whole new world with amazing views, crashing waves below, and "penguins," as my boys called them, hanging out on the rocky ledges. I believe those penguins were actually black cormorants but I could be mistaken. That dune was a breeze for my boys, but not so much for me. I'm still feeling it in my knees, but it was totally worth it!When we'd had enough climbing and tide pooling, we drove a little further north to the beaches on the other side of Cape Kiwanda. You can drive and park on the beach in this area and that's what we did. By this point the weather was changing and it was starting to rain ever so slightly. We chased seagulls on the sand before heading home after another perfect day at the Oregon coast.I'm booking Oregon coast sessions this year so contact me if you want to schedule your own session at the shore.
