Portland Elopement Photographer | A Portland Waterfront Wedding Encounter

Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I remember, from the time I was a little girl. For most of my life, I thought it would be a hobby and nothing more. I remember sitting in an accounting training in Oregon several years ago and for an ice-breaking activity, we had to go around the room and say what we would want to do for a living if we hadn't chosen accounting. My dream career was photographer, but never did I imagine I would actually make it a reality. When the accounting teacher asked what kind of photography, I said something along the lines of "anything but weddings."Fast forward several years...my accounting career is a distant memory (besides my own bookkeeping and taxes), I can actually call myself a photographer (in progress), and I recently fell in love with shooting weddings. So when I was wandering around the waterfront in Portland with my boys recently, just exploring with no agenda for the day, doing what we do best in the city, I was excited to see a couple taking their own wedding photos. I thought about what a beautiful setting the waterfront would be for wedding photos and mentally put it on my list of "must dos" when we are back in Oregon. I watched the couple in their wedding attire having their photos taken by another couple, presumably a couple from their wedding party. Then I saw them ask a stranger to take a photo of the 4 of them together. That's when I approached them, told them I was a photographer from Montana just hanging out in Portland for the day, and asked if they would like me to take some photos of them. I gave them my business card to appear slightly less crazy perhaps and we had a 20ish minute photo shoot. It was truly some of the most fun I've had doing my "job" because there wasn't time to stress about it and there were no expectations ahead of time. We exchanged email addresses, they hurried off to their wedding, and I was a bit in shock that I had actually done it.While I don't know this couple besides their names, the love they had for one another was apparent in the short time I got to spend with them. Perhaps we will meet again some day!  (See an update HERE.  We did meet again!)I am excited about more Oregon experiences and scenery (wineries, the coast, the city, oh my!) when we move there in June and can't wait to see what the future holds for our family and for Heidi Heaphy Photography in Portland.button test 150x50Heidi Heaphy Photography is a Portland, Oregon based photographer specializing in weddings, seniors, and family sessions.
