Cannon Beach Wedding | Amie and Doug
Have I ever mentioned how much I love photographing weddings at the Oregon coast? Perhaps a time or 2 or 50? But I really, truly do. Amie and Doug's July Cannon Beach wedding was a particularly special one for me too. Amie and I grew up in the same small town of Anaconda, Montana and I was so honored when she contacted me to say that they were going to be traveling to Cannon Beach and wanted me to photograph their Oregon coast wedding. This day was so incredible and I can't even believe the special surprises and perfect little details that they included. It was fun for me to see people that I haven't seen in many years too!I arrived at the Cannon Beach Visitor Center where they were having their reception on one of the hottest days of the year (108 degrees when I left Portland!) which made it perfect weather at the coast. Amie and Doug's family and friends were setting up all of the finishing touches before Amie arrived to get in her wedding dress. The gorgeous bride and her gorgeous bridesmaids arrived after hair and makeup to get dressed. These moments are some of my favorite parts of a wedding day. There were no dry eyes in the room during the special moment when Amie's daughter saw her mom in her wedding dress for the first time. The wedding took place on the beach overlooking iconic Haystack Rock. They had beach balls as party favors to toss at the newly-married couple during their processional. Doug's daughters walked him down the aisle to wait for his beautiful bride. Those surprises I mentioned above? Well, this one takes the cake. Amie and her best friend Bonnie grew up like sisters. When they were younger, they talked about how they were going to have a joint wedding some day. Life doesn't always work out the way that we plan of course, and Bonnie married her high school sweetheart Mark (one of my childhood friends too) 10 years earlier. When Amie was planning her wedding, there were only 2 days available for the reception location and the only one that worked for them just happened to be Bonnie and Mark's 10-year anniversary date. During the wedding, Amie and Doug surprised Bonnie and Mark with a vow renewal ceremony of their own. They hadn't mentioned this surprise to very many people but knew it would be well-received by the couple. It was such a wonderful moment watching this story play out. After Bonnie and Mark renewed their vows, Amie and Doug said their own vows to one another through tears and laughter. They joined their families with a perfectly-fitting sand ceremony on the beach. After photos on the beach, we met back with their family and friends for a fun-filled evening dancing into the night.Thank you, Amie and Doug, for the honor of photographing your beautiful Oregon coast wedding. I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness together!
